New 2015 EPA Rule Q&A Document

September 2, 2017

The US EPA’s Office of Underground Storage Tanks continues to put out excellent technical assistance documents for the UST community. And now that state are starting to develop their own UST rules we are getting tons of interpretation questions.

EPA developed questions and answers (Qs & As) to clarify implementation issues regarding the 2015 underground storage tank (UST) regulations, posted the Qs & As on the EPA UST website.

General Info: Recently reorganized them into a technical compendium format, which is arranged by topic and contains information under each topic; see www.epa.gov/ust/underground-storage-tank-ust-technical-compendium-about-2015-ust-regulations.

Interstitial Monitoring: In early August, added Qs & As to the compendium’s secondary containment and interstitial monitoring category; see www.epa.gov/ust/underground-storage-tank-ust-technical-compendium-about-2015-ust-regulations#secondarycontainment.  They cover:

  • Secondary containment and corrosion protection requirements for remote fill pipes, and
  • Tank technologies placed within existing UST systems.

Airport Hydrant Systems: EPA also just added a series of Qs & As about large airport hydrant systems related to Department of Defense facilities; see www.epa.gov/ust/underground-storage-tank-ust-technical-compendium-about-2015-ust-regulations#ahs.
