It’s a great national recap of the one year anniversary of the new EPA rules. And we at UST Training have updated our Class A/B UST operator training courses to include the new rules. Etiquette guides will tell us that the traditional gift for a First Anniversary is paper….  Well, here’s an email instead!  Maybe you could pretend you’re reading it on good, old-fashioned paper.

This past Sunday, October 13, 2019, marked the one year anniversary of the October 2018 deadline for meeting the major underground storage tank (UST) requirements in the 2015 federal UST regulation; see www.epa.gov/ust/revising-underground-storage-tank-regulation-revisions-existing-requirements-and-new.  I am writing to thank you for your continued efforts in implementing this regulation, provide you with a few reminders, and share our observations about this past year.

Bill Mascott, President of Mascott Equipment in Portland, Oregon was recently elected the new President of the Petroleum Equipment Institute, effective January 1, 2020.

UST Training is excited to see Bill preside over PEI for the next year. Bill worked closely with Ben Thomas of UST training and hosted dozens of Class A/B UST operator classes that Ben provided between 2004-2009 in his Portland office. Mascott Equipment has been a strong supporter of operator training and currently hosts on their web page our nationally recognized video series Tank Savvy Minute on YouTube. Also, Mascott is an authorized reseller of our online Class A/B and C courses.

The Oregon Fuels Association (OFA) is now an authorized reseller of our online Oregon Class A/B Class C) UST operator training for UST operators. Check it out!

Ben Thomas, founder of UST Training, is presented with a vintage EPA poster from Carolyn Hoskinson, Director of EPA’s Office of Underground Storage Tanks, at the 2019 PEI Show in Atlanta for his 30+ years of service preventing leaking USTs. Ben was at show with his UST Training booth, meeting old friends, making new ones, and promoting online Class A/B and C UST operator training.

Last month Ben Thomas of UST Training attended and presented at a 4-day environmental conference the Tribal Lands Environmental Forum (TLEF) August 19-23, in Palm Springs, CA.

Ben gave three different UST-related presentations to a roomful of tribal attendees from around the country. UST Training provides online training for Class A/B and C UST operator training that is specifically deigned for Indian Country UST operators.

Good news for Wyoming Class C Operators. Our online version of the Class C UST operator training course “Fuel Station Safety” is now considered acceptable by the WY DEQ so long as the Acknowledgment of Training form (provided in the course) is properly filled out and signed.

Aside from California and Puerto Rico, our Class C course is approved or accepted in every other state and territory.
