How an Overfill Alarm Works

October 22, 2024

Hi, this is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. We are at the OMNTEC booth at a petroleum trade show. I want to show you how water and overfill fuel alarms work. Your underground storage tank system has two floats in it. A water float for detecting water at the bottom of the tank and a fuel float above that to determine fuel liquid levels and so if there’s a water condition or high-level alarm your tank gauge will tell you that. So, what you do that if you have a fuel delivery the tank reaches its 90% fuel capacity, the tank overfill alarm activates. Acknowledge the alarm doesn’t necessarily mean there’s an overfill problem what it means is that the tank is filled to its 90% capacity and the driver the delivery driver of the tank system needs to make sure the tank is not overfilled. This is Ben Thomas of UST training this has been a tank savvy minute.
