Learning Gasoline Basics

June 23, 2011

Hi, this is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. Today we’re going to learn about gasoline and what you might actually find in your gasoline. We’re here at a typical dispenser here we’ve got three different grades here unleaded, unleaded Plus or mid-grade and unleaded super. They have different octane readings but what’s important to note here is that this gasoline contains 10% ethanol. Ethanol is a vegetable-based substance that is an additive to gasoline to reduce carbon monoxide pollution, so when you’re buying fuel at a dispenser here you’re actually buying 90% gasoline and 10% ethanol blend that is an air pollution reduction.
