Monthly Sump Inspections?

September 22, 2014

Hi, this is Ben Thomas with the UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. I was going to do a video today about why you don’t need to do a monthly inspection of your containment sump. EPA is proposing a monthly inspection program I’ve always been a big proponent of “your checking your sump way too much it’s dangerous whole bunch of reasons” so this technician convinced me to come out and take a look at a random containment sump and what do we find? We find the gasket around this thing is not well we’re in a rainy part of the country so you might get water in here. These guys were not clamped down and so is not put back down correctly and if you look in the bottom the containment sump there’s a whole bunch of water here the water is just below where the sump sensor is and most notably and kind of shockingly is this corrosion that’s happening from the e10 vapor wicking out of the tank and getting into containment sump causing massive corrosion. So I think before I started shooting this video I was a kind of a big proponent of let the sump sensor check it for you. The truth of matter is I’m kind of now being more convinced at a monthly sump inspection is a good idea. This is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this has been a tank savvy minute.
