New CT UST Rules Adopted

July 18, 2025

The Connecticut DEEP recently amended their underground storage tank rules, which take affect August 5, 2025. Overall, the rules did not go much broader, but they definitely went deeper.

For instance, according to their web page, regarding release detection:

“Any state or federally regulated USTs installed on or after May 7, 2025, must be double-walled and use continuous interstitial monitoring of the inner and outer walls with a technology such as inert gas, liquid or a vacuum (e.g. brine system).

Double-walled USTs installed before October 1, 2003, have two years (May 7, 2027) to upgrade release detection to continuously monitor the interstitial space between the walls (dry space) or use continuous interstitial monitoring of the inner and outer walls with a technology such as inert gas, liquid or a vacuum (e.g. brine system).”

Here is a table with 2025 periodic tank and piping test requirements. The table is quite dense and the print is tiny, so it’s best viewed on a very large screen.

There are many other changes that are too involved to list here. We have updated our training material for the Connecticut DEEP to approve and should have the updated CT Class A/B course ready for purchase shortly.  Any questions please reach out to us at [email protected]
