Tank Savvy Minute: Penetration Fittings Basics

This is Ben Thomas with UST Training, and this is a tank savvy minute. We’re here at the 2012 PEI that’s Petroleum Equipment Institute National Trade Show in Las Vegas. One Thing a lot of folks don’t understand Is there this thing in the underground containment world called penetration fittings see these little rings here. This is where the pipe enters and exits a containment sump. These penetration fitting are mission critical from the perspective that if these guys are loose, and if you have leak, then fuel simply gets out the back or maybe worse water gets in. If you have secondary containment, then you’re going to have penetration fitting so the pipe has got to get in and out of the sump somewhere an often neglected. Part of the system is to make that these pipe fittings are tight. Penetration fittings is a term you want to become familiar with.
