Hi, this is Ben Thomas at the UST training this is a tank savvy minute. We’re here at the PEI the Petroleum Equipment Institute trade show learning about parts and pieces of an underground storage tank system this device here is called the under-dispenser containment sump. This is a sump that’s below the dispenser and is here to capture leaks at one of the most common places where we have leaks that is underneath the dispenser. Notice a couple things here this is a shear valve, or some people call it an impact valve or crash valve or shut off valve. It is able to shut off the flow of fuel if the dispenser is hit by a vehicle or if it gets a fire there’s a fusible link that shuts the guy down here. This thing is an important piece of equipment and what it does here is that it’s anchored rigidly to this piece here if a car comes this thing is busted and if the pump is on there will be fuel spraying all over the place in the event of an accident.
