Understanding Your Dispenser

June 23, 2011

Hi, this is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. Today let’s talk about a dispenser people often times call these the pump, but the truth of the matter is this entire cabinet is actually called the dispenser. You’ll notice a couple things right off the bat, here’s our handle, and our hold down latch and our nozzle this allows fuel to go into your vehicle and these little holes here mean the system has stage two vapor recovery, so it sucks back any sort of loose Vapors back into the underground tank to minimize air pollution. You’ll also notice here this dispenser has been calibrated and it’s proven that the measurements are accurate 5 gallons of gasoline purchase is actually 5 gallons of fuel. If we work our way up from the nozzle and the trigger on up to the hose the hose obviously connects the dispenser to the nozzle and up here is what’s called a breakaway connection, now this Breakaway connection is here so that if you accidentally drive off with the nozzle still in the opening of your fuel tank it’ll actually snap right here, this will disconnect and that way you don’t actually drag the entire dispenser off its base. It’s a safety feature that unfortunately is used with fairly regularity. That’s pretty much it this has Ben Thomas with UST training, and this has been a tank savvy minute.
