Understanding Your Spill Buckets

June 23, 2011

Hi this is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. Today
we’re going to learn about spill buckets. A spill bucket is a device that’s found
around the fill opening. This is a fill opening cover. Pull back the cover and you’ll notice a cap here, and this tube here allows fuel to be deposited into the underground storage tank at a delivery. Now sometimes a driver at the end of the delivery has a little accidental spillage and so that spillage rather than get spread all over the ground gets contained in what we call the spill bucket or the spill containment manway. So there’s the fill opening, spill bucket, this spill bucket has a little bit of water in it a good operator wants to make sure that this spill bucket is clean and dry every day so, it’s doing its job, and if there is a little product in there this particular one has a drain and you can actually pull this drain and allow the product to drain back into the fuel tank obviously if you have water and debris in here you would never want to do that. That’s it this is a spill bucket. This is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this has been a tank savvy minute.
