UST Systems and Vents

October 23, 2024

This is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. We are standing in front of four vent pipes. Vents are important parts of an underground storage tank systems they allow the tanks to breathe, and I can see I’ve got four vents going on here, so I probably got four USTs. At the top of the vent line, you’ll notice three out of the four vents have what are called PV caps and that means there are gasoline, and the site has what’s called stage one vapor recovery. Those PV caps prevent gasoline vapors from pushing into the atmosphere and causing undue hazards and harm. The one without a cap is actually a diesel tank and does not need what’s called stage one vapor recovery. Not a critical part of your daily operations as a UST operator but it’s good to know underground storage tank systems do need to breathe and there are safety environmental controls in place to make sure your gas station is not polluting the air around you. This is Ben Thomas with us training and this has been a tank savvy minute.
