Hi, this is Ben Thomas with UST training, and this is a tank savvy minute. I’ve been doing underground storage tank compliance for many, many years, and I sometimes take for granted that new people coming in the industry may not know exactly why all these things are so important. The underground storage tank safety rules were put in place to make sure that drinking water and surface water was not affected by leaky underground fuel tank and let us over right behind me here lake clean, good water maybe there’s a drinking water aquifer nearby. What we want to do is make sure that any gasoline either spilled on the ground or leaking from the tank and the piping does not make its way into the lake or the drinking water down below. I’m standing on top of a storm drain here and the storm drain is a bit of a concern, but I happen to know this particular storm drain goes into a container that has an oil water separator so any sort of runoff from spilled gasoline would not go directly into the lake. So, it’s important to know your business as a class ABC operators to make sure things are safe and that drinking water is clean, surface water is not impacted, and you the class ABC operator can make all the difference.
